I have been following the Lumbees after finding out we are related to them. Last week they finally got their recognition which was amazing.
The opposition were the East Band of Cherokee and the Cherokee of Oklahoma they went to congress and stated their case. I am sure there were other tribes who didn’t want the Lumbee to get their recognition.
None of that matters now that the Lumbee finally get their recognition as tribe 575. I looked up the last time a tribe received their recognition and it was in 2019. It would seem to me that the process is not working because it is taking way too long.
